New Zealand Scholarships for Undergrads and Postgrads in 2024
The country of New Zealand is offering Undergrad and postgrad scholarships to citizens belonging to developing countries for the class of 2024. These New Zealand scholarships will allow them to study at a New Zealand higher educational institution or at one of the Pacific Universities.
List of New Zealand Scholarships
There are several types of New Zealand scholarships offered at the Universities of New Zealand. These scholarships are listed below:
#1 Scholarships for Under/postgraduate students:
These scholarships are offered to international students from eligible countries. Previously the scholarship was available to students from selected countries of Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Pacific, and the Commonwealth. This year, due to COVID-19, the scholarships have only been made available to students from the Pacific region. These are full tertiary awards that enable the recipients to study in one of the higher educational institutions of New Zealand or a Pacific University.
All of New Zealand’s universities have been ranked in the top 100 institutions in the QS World University Rankings. Applicants can select from the list of the following universities:
- Victoria University of Wellington
- University of Waikato
- University of Otago
- University of Canterbury
- University of Auckland
- Massey University
- Lincoln University
- Auckland University of Technology
The technical institutions of New Zealand are also recognized for their practical training and state-of-the-art teaching methods. These institutions are:
- Southern Institute of Technology
- Unitec Institute of Technology
- Wintec – Waikato Institute of Technology
Selected students from the Pacific region can choose to study in one of the following Pacific universities as well:
- Pacific Adventist University
- University of South Pacific
- Fiji National University
- University of Papua New Guinea
#2 Short-term Training Awards for Pacific and Timor-Leste Students:
This scholarship gives a full tuition fee waiver and a weekly allowance to citizens from Fiji, French Polynesia, Palau, Tonga, Marshall Islands, Niue, Timor-Leste, etc. The scholarships are given for a short-term period to provide skills coaching and on-the-job training to workers. The scholarships are provided in the following areas:

- Tourism
- Information Technology
- Economic Resilience
- Climate change and the environment
- Food Security and Agriculture
#3 Short Term Scholarships for citizens of South East Asia and Timor-Leste:
These too, are short-term scholarships meaning to provide job training to the citizens of countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Timor-Leste. The training courses will be in the following fields:
- Public Sector Leadership
- Agriculture
- Geothermal Energy
- Renewable Energy
The applicants must be from countries like Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, etc. These courses are usually two and four weeks long. Because of COVID-19, a number of these courses will be delivered remotely.
#4 Scholarships for English Language Training in New Zealand:
Government employees from selected African and Asian countries can get a scholarship from the New Zealand government. The scholarship will be provided for the English language training whereby the officials from selected countries come to New Zealand for five months (maximum), learn the English language, and make connections with other recipients.
The language courses revolve around themes like good governance, agriculture, renewable energy, trade, etc. English language Training Scholarships will be awarded to those applicants who have a job that correlates with the current theme such as some technical position or a policy job.
Eligible countries for application are Togo, Senegal, Tunisia, Palestine, Burundi, Cape Verde, Angola, Algeria, Chad, Comoros, Morocco, etc.
