Living Cost for Students in the UK in 2024:

The candidates interested to study in Britain must have a reasonable amount of funding in their account to cover tuition, accommodation, food, and other essential charges. The average living cost for a student in the UK is approximately £651/$900 but if a candidate is studying under the British Council Scholarships, most of the expenses will get covered. These British scholarship programs are fully/partially-funded and cover all the academics, living, food, and health expenses with tuition fees.

Does the UK Allow Students to Work on Student Visas?

Well, the simple answer is yes. If a candidate is enrolled in any long-term course at any Britain University, then that student can work for 20 hours per week during the British university credit hours. But, students with a short-term study visa are not permitted to undergo any job or employment.

1# British Newton Fund Scholarships:

British Council in partnership with Newton foundation created a new scholarship package for students especially from India for the academic year of 2024. This British Newton fund will enable young talent to study for free in British institutes.

2# A.S. Hornby Trust Scholarships:

The Hornby Trust with the British Council has announced the A.S. Hornby Trust Scholarship. Here, the asylum refugees’ teachers will get a chance to polish and enhance their English-speaking skills. Winners will enjoy the benefits of monthly stipends, living costs, tuition fee waivers, air tickets, and English Language test costs coverage.

With this Britain scholarship, these honorable teachers will progress in the English language and create a dominant impact on their respective fields.

3# Great Scholarships:

Students from the variant 18 countries are eligible for the most notable Great Scholarship funded by the British Council and the UK Britain Campaign. Candidates from the postgraduate degree programs can win this scholarship with the reward of £10,000 to cover the tuition fee for one year.

Take note of this that the selected candidates will also get a chance to attend the welcome event in the first semester and the networking event in the second one.

4# Scotland Saltire Scholarships:

The Scottish universities and Scotland Government have joined hands to promote education among everyone through the generous Scotland Saltire scholarship program. EU and EEA students can opt for this scholarship and open a new door to experience an innovative academic and learning environment. In total 50 British scholarships are awarded every year to deserving students with a reward of £4,000 to £8,000.

Moreover, students doing Master’s degrees in Science, Technology, Healthcare & Medicine, or Renewable energy are eligible for this British academic funding program.

5# British Chevening Scholarships:

The government of the UK with the FCO is doing a commendable job by offering Chevening Scholarships to the students enrolled in the Graduate Courses. Students with the potential to excel in the field of Religion, Politics, Technology, Business, Media, etc. must apply for them as they have a high chance of selection. To meet the eligibility criteria, the candidate must be a Bachelor’s degree holder with two years of work experience.

6# Commonwealth Scholarships:

Commonwealth is a fully-funded scholarship that aims to help low or below-average country students. With such a golden opportunity, around 800 students can bring a positive yet notable change to their lives and homelands. If you think you are a potential candidate but are unable to finance your education in the UK, here is your chance.

Apply for the Commonwealth Scholarship while doing postgraduate studies and get your tuition fees and other necessary expenditures like airfare, health insurance, meal, and book costs funded. Applied candidates must meet the required criteria to win this scholarship.

7# Rhodes UK Scholarships:

The prestigious Rhodes Scholarship is the effort of the British Council to help extraordinary students from every corner of the world pursue their postgraduate studies in the UK. Students after winning this scholarship can get their application fees covered, plus enjoy round air tickets of economy flights, health insurance, settling allowances, etc; meanwhile, the tenure of this UK scholarship will be only valid for two years.

8# British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM:

All the passionate, enthusiastic, and young women have the chance to build their future and finance their education via British Council Scholarship Program for women in STEM. The applied aspirants have to be nationals of Southeast Asia, South Asia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Egypt.

Please keep in mind that this is a British scholarship available for women in their second year of a Master’s degree program in the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics fields. The winners will be entitled to Academic, Health, and Living funding.

9# Young Cell Scheme Scholarships:

The British Council with the Ministry of European Integration & the European Union office in Kosovo has announced the Young Cell Scholarship Scheme. The selected candidates will study at Trinity College Dublin for one year in the Master’s degree program.

Meanwhile, grants will be provided to the winners to cover the application and tuition fees. On the other hand, IELTS test preparation costs, health insurance, airfares, etc. will also get funded under the Young cell scheme.

10# Sussex University Scholarships:

Sussex is the top-ranked British university in the UK, providing 500 partially-funded scholarships with the support of the British Council for Undergrads, Grads, and Postgrad students. IELTS is not mandatory as it accepts alternative language tests like DET & TOEFL. Securing admission at Sussex University is not very challenging due to the high acceptance rate of 83%.

While applying for admission, candidates also have to pay GBP 18 as an admission application fee at Sussex. To win the scholarships offered by Sussex University, candidates have to abide by the academic and financial criteria. Scholarship winners, however, will get a grant of 5,000 GBP for Bachelor’s studies and 3,000 GBP for Master’s studies.

Notable Scholarships offered by Sussex University are; Sussex Bangladesh Scholarships, Chancellor Scholarships, Sussex Undergraduate Scholarships, etc.

11# University of Cambridge Scholarships:

Cambridge University, one of the famous names in the UK is offering the Gates Cambridge Scholarship to students residing outside the UK. All the candidates who want to complete their postgraduate studies here must submit the £75 as an admission application charge.

Submitting the application fees does not guarantee admission as the acceptance rate of this university is quite low i.e., 21%. On the other hand, the Gates Cambridge Scholarship Entry Criteria gives liberty to submit test scores other than the IELTS like DET, TOEFL iBT, CAE, CPE, etc.

In the meantime, it will cover the costs of visa, health, travel, and immigration. On the other hand, candidates will also receive £500-£2000 as funds to attend conferences, courses, and seminars. A few of the prominent scholarships offered by Cambridge university are; Cambridge Master’s Studentship, Cambridge Trust Scholarship, Cambridge International Scholarship, etc.

12# Clarendon Scholarships:

Clarendon scholarships are available for graduate and postgraduate students from all around the world. These scholarships are extremely competitive, and the students will be selected only according to their academic performance and credibility. Clarendon University has no restrictions for accepting students regardless of nationality and the winners will get a sponsorship for covering tuition fees and living expenses coverage.

13# Euraxxes Scholarships:

The British Council has also announced scholarships and funding for Ph.D. Scholars and Researchers. Through the Euraxxes scholarship, candidates can fund their research, thesis, and dissertations. Euraxxes Jobs and scholarships also provide funding opportunities to international talented scholars and students to find employment in European countries and not just in UK. Talking about the eligibility criteria, local and international Ph.D. Doctorates and experienced and skillful Researchers are welcome to apply for the Euraxxes scholarship without paying registration charges.

14# Warm Welcome Scholarships:

Warn Welcome Scholarship is a brand new initiative of British Council supporting young students from Afgan Origin to enable them to study for free in UK Universities in 2024. Afghanistan students can now take advantage of this Warm Welcome British Scholarship to study BS, MS and phd program this year in UK.

15# Charles Wallace Trust Scholarships:

The council of British and the Charles Wallace Trust is giving funded scholarships to students doing Doctoral studies and Fellowship programs. The interesting thing about this scholarship is that it does not ask for IELTS test scores. However, the duration of the scholarship for the Doctoral program is 1 year and the Fellowship is 3 months – to 3 years. The funding coverage of the Charles Wallace Trust Scholarship are; Visa fees, Air travel costs, etc.

16# Marshall Field Scholarships:

One of the ways to make the relationship stronger between the UK and the USA is the Marshall Field Scholarship. By utilizing such scholarships, young Americans in the UK can complete their graduate studies in diverse fields without paying for the Travel, thesis, tuition fee, and book costs. However, the scholarship duration varies between 1 to 2 years.

17# Newton Fund Ph.D. Cell:

The Newton Fund Ph.D. scholarship is a new program designed for Ph.D. students belonging to different 18 partnered countries. Newton Fund Scholarship helps students in conducting research and innovations by offering various partially/ fully-funded Ph.D. scholarships and other financial benefits.

The reward of £20,000 issued by Royal society for 12 months will not only help these students in carrying out the research and other activities but also cover the travel and equipment expenses.

19# British Council IELTS Scholarships:

The British Council IELTS Scholarship is a new program designed for students from India. British Council funding aims to assist these students at every educational step who loves to complete undergrad, grad, and postgrad studies in the UK. The British council has also announced the benefits of this scholarship scheme, like tuition fee coverage for the scholarship winners.

20# Global Wales Scholarship for Overseas Students:

International students seeking to pursue higher education in Wales can now enjoy Global Wales scholarships with many financial coverages and amazing bursaries. There are five types of scholarships offered by the Global Wales Fund. For instance;

1. Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarships: for Master’s students
2. Gilman-Global Wales Awards: for Bachelor’s students
3. Chevening Scholarships: for Postgraduate education in Wales
4. Global Wales British Council India Scholarships: for Postgraduate students belonging to India

21# British Council China Scholarships:

You can apply for a British Council Scholarship to study for free in China if you are a graduated student from UK and have proper eligibility clearance to get admission in MS/PhD program at any given Chinese University in 2024.

22# Edinburgh University Scholarships:

The University of Edinburgh is one of the highest ranked university in UK with an acceptance rate of 46% with no application fees at all. Meanwhile, IELTS & TOEFL test scores are acceptable to fulfill language proficiency requirements and if you got none of these then consider submitting any other English langauge proficiency test at that university.

Edinburgh University has announced an online degree scholarship for Master’s degree studies. Students of all nationalities can root for the Edinburgh University Scholarship Program. Well, the list of scholarships offered by this university is way long and includes; Merit-Based Scholarships, Edinburgh Global Undergraduate Scholarships, Robertsons International Scholarships, and many more.

23# University of Birmingham Scholarships:

The University of Birmingham has announced various scholarships like Global Master’s scholarships for students belonging to specific countries. Every year around 30 lucky students win this scholarship with the reward of £10,000 and a part-time job opportunity in one of the leading companies in the UK.

Securing admission at Birmingham University is not so competitive due to the 74% acceptance rate. However, the University of Birmingham charges an admission application fee of 50 GBP for undergrad and grad courses. But the postgrad courses have no application charges & IELTS is no more mandatory.

Other notable scholarships offered by Birmingham University are; BP Scholarships, Commonwealth scholarships, etc.

24# Bristol University Think Big Scholarships:

The Bristol University and the Council of British have announced Bristol University Think Big Scholarship for Bachelor’s and Master’s students. Bristol University is offering many heavily funded scholarship program that receives applications in two rounds, and the reward for winners is £5,000 or £10,000 with other applauding benefits with my recommendation of Think big scholarship which is also offered by Bristol University.

The IELTS requirement is not mandatory at Bristol University, but students have to pay £60 as an application fee. The acceptance rate of Bristol university was 68% making it partially competitive to secure admission.

There are many other British scholarships offered by Bristol University reputable university, for instance; Global Economics Scholarships, Beacon Scholarships, etc.

25# Oxford University Scholarships

Oxford University is among the last on my this British Council Scholarships List because it is highly competitive to get in this university for any degree program. I recommend my students to apply for Oxford University Scholarships if you guys got really high scores in your academics.
